Happy Endings

To the excellent staff,

As you may remember I adopted Natasha, a red nose pit bull whom I've renamed Hunnie, around the end of December.  I am sorry it has taken so long to email you about her but moving into a new house and a new dog is quite a lot to deal with! We have since settled into our new home where she is queen of the house! She enjoys her yard and the pool very much!  She is extremely spoiled and loved by my family and all my friends. I have sent some pictures of her so you can she just how "hard" she has it!

Thanks for everything!!

Krystal Smith

P.S. all of my friends were scared to death of her because of her breed BUT now they come over more to visit her than me!!  She's such a lover and I am so happy that she is part of my family!

Hi guys,

I thought you would like an update on our little Rattie, Lucky, we adopted from you guys last summer. (I think you called him Lil Bit.) He is doing very well and has become an important family member. He is getting much more comfortable around guys and also getting way more confident. (He used to be VERY submissive and urinated every time someone just looked at him.) Him and his Rattie sister run around and play all day – except for when they are sleeping on someone’s lap.

Thank you,

Tanja McCondichie

My name is Heather. I recently was looking for a lab to adopt for me and my daughter. We had lived in apartments prior to now and finally got a house with a big yard that was just begging for a dog. I looked around for about 2-3 months for a young lab until we found one at the Plano Animal Shelter. Her name is Willow . She was a 4-month old lab that had been surrendered by her owner for a “chewing problem.” I had a lab prior to Willow that we had to give up because of the weight limit in the apartment I was living in. I knew all about chewing and different stages puppies go through – especially big puppies. I went to the shelter to see Willow and fell in love with her. I brought her home and my daughter was ecstatic. We have had her now for almost 2 months and she has been an incredible dog. I made sure she had plenty of toys to keep her busy so chewing hasn’t been a problem. She also doesn’t join in when the neighborhood dogs are barking up a storm and howling at the moon. She is the most loving dog and has even befriended my two older cats. I couldn’t have asked for a better dog – all she needed was a second chance. To anyone reading this – please consider adopting your pets instead of getting them from a breeder. There are so many that need good homes and I know the animal shelter even has purebred dogs. A big thank you to the animal shelter for taking in these dogs and cats so they can have a second chance too with someone who is willing to give them one. Thanks again!

I wanted to share with you the story of my new dog Lexie and her success in the short time she has been with us! I hope you can pass this on to the people that work at the shelter, particularly a woman named Chelsea (not sure if I spelled that correctly) who was very helpful and kind when I went in and found Lexie. I adopted a female manchester terrier/labrador retriever mix (Lexie) from the Plano Animal shelter on Thursday October 26, 2006. I already have a chocolate lab. (Riley)and he gets lonely and I felt he needed a buddy. He is a very sweet dog, non-aggressive, smart, obedient, loyal: the best dog I have ever had in my life. I saw "Angel" (or "Alice" as they were calling her at the shelter) on-line last Thursday, just looking, not sure about picking up a dog quite yet. She looked adorable and was marked as "special needs." Well, I am a social worker for adults and children with "special needs" so I was curious and went down to take a look (I live nearby). She was the cutest thing I ever saw and so, so skinny and scared. I guess her "special needs" were some TLC and she has plenty of that now. She has a load of toys, treats and is eating really well. She had a bit of a kennel cough at first and wasn't eating very well but a vet visit and antibiotics are clearing all that up! I am pretty certain she had a home at one time because she can sit, lay down, come and she is crate-trained. I am also quite certain whoever had her hurt her as she has a fear of all new people. She has so far been around my friends and family and her new big brother and though she was timid at first she is breaking out of her shell already! In the week we have had her we have fallen in love with her as have our friends, family and her new big brother. I just wanted to extend my thanks to all of you down at the Plano Animal Shelter for all you do each and every day & send some pictures of Lexie playing with her new big brother to show you how well she is doing and how much she has come along this past week!

Sincerely,
Sheilah Shute

Hello,

My name is Carol and my husband and I adopted “Lilly” The little black Chihuahua that the lady there had been taking care of. We renamed her Cricket. She has been a real joy for us, and she is just the greatest little dog. Of course we spoil her rotten. Everyone just loves her. I just wanted the lady that was taking care of her to know that she is doing well.wish I had gotten her name. I told her I would send a picture Cricket. So if someone would let her know that I sent this I would appreciate it so much. I believe she was meant to be with us and we thank you so very much!

Hello,

I am a Paramedic in Golden, Colorado. I work 24 hour shifts, leaving my wife home alone at night. We started looking for a dog to keep her feeling safe while I was away. We came across Pierre (10569) while looking at Petfinder.com. We both decided that this guy might be just what we were looking for. I called up the Plano Animal Shelter and asked to talk to someone who knew Pierre. I talked to two very helpful ladies that let me know all about him. Well, within the hour I packed up my truck and headed out for Texas. 900 miles later I picked up our guy. Your staff were so helpful getting Pierre adopted, and ready to hit the road again for our 13 hour journey home. Now home for a week, we are all so thrilled to be together. We have re-named this gentle pup Klaus, and he has taken to it quickly. He seems to love the cool mountain air, and all space to streach his legs. He is already spoiled, and absolutely loves to go on long hikes in the hills in our back yard. Tell all your great staff "thanks for making this such a worthwhile experience".

Sincerely,

Judson and Tara Miller

I found my cat at the Plano Animal Shelter, and I would not have him today if it wasn't for Petfinder.com. I couldn't find him at the shelter, and had to ask for him by name. They'd been keeping him in another room where he was not visible to people looking to adopt cats, probably because he was sneezing at the time. He's all anybody could ask for in a cat- he's extremely affectionate and mild-tempered. I'm so glad I did my research first on Petfinder.com!

Thank you so much!

My name is Penny Howard. On August 24, 2004 we rescued a very special boxer from your location, whom you called Bunny. She had been with you for over two months when an unknown person had paid all fees for her but was unable to house her. Due to the length of time she had been at your facility in combination with her elderly age and the amount of animals you had to take in at the time, she was endanger of death. After two weeks of monitoring this free boxer online and many phone calls to your shelter regarding her status, my husband and I decided to bring her home. We very quickly discovered her vibrant personality and began to call her Lady Bug. We immediately felt as though she had been a part of our lives forever and could not imagine one day without her. After approximately 4 months, Lady Bug began to have medical problems. She had unexplainable seizures. In an attempt to eliminate the problem or at the very least ease the severity and slow the determination process we took her for medical treatment. Our efforts worked for a little over a year and a half without disrupting her quality of life. Unfortunately, we were recently forced to make our hardest decision ever with regards to the suffering we no longer wanted her to endure because despite our efforts the medication was no longer helping her situation and the seizures were become more frequent and more sever. Therefore, yesterday, September 6, 2006, with the help of her Doctor we gave her permanent relief of her pain. 2 years and 13 days ago we brought home the love of our life to sleep in a warm soft cozy bed after over two months of sleeping on hard, cold, uncomfortable concrete. I have attached her picture so we could share with you our beautiful baby. We extend our most heartfelt thanks to you, your staff, and your shelter for all the love and care you extend to the unwanted, unloved, and lost animals in our world. Without you, we would have been unable to give Lady Bug the greatest last two years of her life.

Thank You,
Dustin and Penny Howard

Our puppy dog, Hattie Wells, (previously known as Ally at the shelter), is doing great! She is a boxer/lab mix & the cutest doggie we’ve ever seen! We adopted her in May at the age of three months & she is now almost six months & growing like a weed! She is so much fun & we love her dearly! She is my BABY!

We recently bought a home in Coppell, so Hattie is enjoying her new backyard, where we play fetch everyday. I tell people that she’s “happy as a pig in slop” in the backyard. She wiggles her way into the flowerbeds, rolls in the dirt, then walks up to the back door and barks for me to let her in the house, so that she can walk her dirty paws all over our white carpet! Ahh….the joys of having a doggy! Needless to say, she is getting used to having her paws wiped down with a wet rag several times a day, so that she can spend the “dog days of summer” indoors, enjoying the A/C.

Plano Animal Shelter,

I wanted to thank you for giving me the best friend I could have ever asked for. I adopted “Lexi” almost a year ago, she is the best thing that has ever happened to me. I could not have asked for a better dog. When I first took her home she was a little scared and timid but with a couple of weeks of giving her all the bones and dog biscuits she could ask for, she has now become the more lovable friendly dog ever.

I know in the pictures she seems a little spoiled, but take my word this dog gets nothing that she wants. Just Kidding! She gets everything that she wants and some. But she totally deserves it.

Thanks again Plano Animal Shelter for giving me my best friend.

Sincerely,
Jennifer Adams

First I want to say THANKS TO ALL OF YOU for the great job you do.

I wanted to send you a recent photo of Harley. I adopted her in
Feb of this year from your facility. She was 3 1/2 or 4 months old at that time (best guess). She is now about 7-8 months.

She is such a good girl! She is close to finishing the canine good citizen testing. (she just needs to learn to "leave it" and perfect her "stay") She learns very quickly and has also learned to close doors for me. She is a member of Dog Scouts of America (she's a scout in training right now) and when she completes her good manners training she will be a full
fledged Dog Scout.

She has also won the heart of my feline in residence. Anisette the cat is so in love with her that she insists on sleeping with her head resting on Harley's neck or leg. She also holds Harley down for a good ear washing even though Harley is 50lbs now (and still growing) and Anisette is only about 12lbs.

Here is a picture of her playing in her wading pool. (she loves this on days we
can't go to the lake)

We adopted our cat Bevo from the Plano shelter in July, 2003. He has been a wonderful addition to our family! We had a great adoption experience with the Plano shelter and have referred you on many occasions.

Thanks for the work that you do!

Happy Endings

We were blessed with a home with a fenced back yard, so now that there was room, I wanted another dog to love, and a "little sister" for my 8 year old black lab. I was directed to Petfinder.com first through The Animal Rescue Site, then to the Plano Animal Shelter by my sister, who works in Plano. I saw Luna and read her bio, and she sounded wonderful, but I figured she would be gone before I could get there. Then, the next month, on a whim, I looked her up again, and she was still there!! I e-mailed Debbie at the shelter, told her I would be there first thing Saturday to get her. Debbie said they couldn't hold her, but if she was still there, then she was meant to be mine. And she was still there!! She is so sweet, and has a great disposition, and she is beautiful! She is so happy, and very, very active! She keeps my black lab hopping and playing, too. I'm working with her to teach her how to be a lady, but I know a lot of her playfulness is due to her young age. !
But she is trainable. She has learned "lay down," "no jump," (okay, we're still working on that one) and which food bowl is hers. She didn't know her other name, so we call her Shadow, which she is starting to recognize. While she is a handful, there isn't a mean bone in her body. And she likes to sleep on my bed. And she smiles. I think she knows she's home.

I adopted Lacy from the Plano Animal Shelter in October 2005. (Her name while there was Clarice.) Her story was a sad one. She had been hit by a car, and brought to the shelter by some kind soul. Then she was adopted, but returned to the shelter for reasons unknown two days later. The day after that I saw her picture on your website and fell in love! I brought her home on October 12, 2005. She was scraped up, though her injuries were healing nicely. She was very shy for the first couple of days, and then she came out of her shell. Boy, did she come out of her shell! She bonded instantly with my other dog Jade, a Chow/Shepherd mix, and they played with endless energy. I often wonder about the circumstances that led her to be lost, then found, and am so grateful to the Plano Animal Shelter for all they do to help innocent animals like Lacy find good, forever homes. Thank you a million times over for bringing her into my life. She is a joy and a constant delight!

Regards,
Marsha Lierly

We adopted a sweet puppy from your shelter last Friday.

Her name was Shania (American
Eskimo/Lab mix?) but we changed it to Chloe. She’s so sweet and fun and full of energy. She’s fitting right in with the family and the resident dog, Noel. Thanks for the opportunity to help rescue such a sweet little girl.

Thanks,

My family adopted Zoe in June of 2004. We’d spent weeks visiting area shelters looking for a small breed puppy. We’d almost given up when I found petfinder.com and saw Zoe in your listing.

I stopped by and tried to find the cute little puppy in with your dogs. I finally asked about her, and was lead to the cages holding cats. Tucked behind a mountain of newspaper was Zoe. She was skinny and shy, stiff when you held her and she wouldn’t look me in the eye. My family came to see her the next day, and we adopted her on the spot.

She was so shy and scared when we brought her home. She was terrified of men and even the slightest loud voice or rapid movement scared her.

Today she’s been through obedience training and has even come to love my dad, who she was terrified of for at least a year. She’s mitten with the kittens that we foster and her best friend is a tabby named Tessa who we adopted this year.

It’s amazing to see how different she is from the skinny, scared puppy we brought home. She loves to go for car rides and play in the backyard.

Hello, my name is Ashley Windham and I was just going to write you and tell you how great Jake is doing. I adopted him about 1 month ago and his original name was Toby, he was the catahoula lepoard dog about a year old. I just thought I would tell you that he is doing great and he is the most energetic and lovable dog anyone could ever have. He now has a huge shaded backyard he gets to play in and at times comes in to stay the night with me. In the mornings he loves to make circles around the yard and through the swing set and he loves to play fetch with his little squeaky toy my grandmother bought him. He is definitely a one in a million type of dog and has the personality of a best friend. I am VERY happy with my choice and I believe he is too. Oh yeah, he also loves to play tag in the backyard with my cousins and me, and might I say he dominates the game, lol. thank you for your time and I will try to send you some pictures of him.

Best of Luck with finding the rest of your Loveable friends homes...

My name is Rachel Gasch and I adopted my puppy from y'all back in April. Her name is Gracie and she's my pride and joy. My husband and I got married in January and shortly after we found out he had to leave for duty with the Army. He'll be gone for a year and a half. I decided I wanted to adopt a puppy to keep me company. We both fell in love with her right away and she's been a wonderful dog. I think he misses her almost as much as he misses me. Thank you for the delightful experience. Here's a recent picture of Gracie.

Just wanted to let you know that we adopted Copper on 17 May and he has turned out to be a great addition to our family. He gets along well with our other 3 year old beagle female and he really loves our four year old son. He follows our son everywhere around the house and has taken up either sleeping in the bed with him or on the floor next to his bed. It didn’t take him long to find his favorite place to sleep in the house, which I have included a picture of. We just wanted to let you know he is doing great and is a wonderful addition to our family.

Melissa Jackson
